The video below walks through submitting your website to Google and Bing Webmaster Tools. Also a sitemap is generated via your WordPress dashboard.
There are a few reasons why it is a good idea to have your website registered with Webmaster Tools on both Google and Bing. One is that it ensures that these big search engines know about your website and all of the content on it. This is vital in order to get all your webpages indexed and available to be found.
To ensure all recent content is indexed in these search engines a sitemap should be submitted. This is a relatively easy process that first involves the creation of an XML sitemap, and then letting the search engines know where to find it. In the video above I use a plugin to generate the sitemap.
Another good thing about being on Webmaster Tools is that you can get useful data about your site, how it’s performing, how other websites are linking to your website, and how traffic is coming to it.
After you have your website on Webmaster Tools you can do some extra configuration to help improve performance. For example you can specify the preferred domain, E.G. www. or non-www. You can also set your target audience, so for my example website I set a target audience in the UK.
The video below shows how to do this configuration.
